Falak-ol-Aflak Castle

Built in the Sasanian era, Falak-ol-Aflak crowns a hill in the heart of Khorramabad. Its massive walls once had twelve towers, eight of which still stand. Over the centuries it served as a royal stronghold, a governor’s residence and even a prison. Today it houses museums of Lorestan’s archaeology and culture.

The Bisheh Waterfall

In a green valley of the Zagros, water bursts from the rocks and falls in wide, silver streams beside the railway line. The Bisheh waterfall, surrounded by oak and wild trees, is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iran.

The Oak Forests and the Lorestan Bronzes

Lorestan’s mountains are covered with Persian oak forests, home to nomadic Lur families for centuries. The province is also world-famous for the Lorestan bronzes, finely crafted ancient objects found in its valleys and admired in museums around the world.
