The Design

Azadi Tower

Completed in 1971 to mark 2,500 years of the Persian Empire, Azadi Tower (“Freedom Tower”) stands about 45 meters tall at the western gateway of Tehran. Designed by architect Hossein Amanat, it blends ancient Iranian and Islamic architecture and has become the most recognizable symbol of the city.

Mount Damavand

At about 5,610 meters, Damavand is the highest peak in Iran and the highest volcano in Asia. In Persian mythology it is where the hero Fereydun chained the tyrant Zahhak, and for Iranians it remains a symbol of strength and resistance.

Golestan Palace and Old Tehran

In the historic center of Tehran, Golestan Palace was the royal residence of the Qajar dynasty, with mirror halls, colorful tiles and peaceful gardens. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013. Around it lie the streets of old Tehran, with its Grand Bazaar and traditional houses.

The Alborz

To the north, the Alborz Mountains form a dramatic backdrop to the city, snow-capped for much of the year and loved by hikers and skiers.
