The Chehrabad Salt Mine and the Salt Men

In 1993, miners working at the Chehrabad salt mine near Zanjan made an astonishing discovery: the body of an ancient man, preserved by the salt. Since then, several more “Salt Men” have been found, some dating back to the Achaemenid period and others to the Sasanian era. Their clothes, tools and even their food survived for more than two thousand years, offering a rare glimpse into the lives of ancient Iranian miners.

Katale Khor Cave

Near the town of Garmab, Katale Khor, “the Crown of the Mountain,” is one of the most spectacular caves in Iran, with long passages, underground halls and beautiful stalactites and stalagmites formed over millions of years.

The Rainbow Mountains of Mahneshan

Around Mahneshan, layers of minerals have painted the hills in red, orange, green and purple, creating one of the most colorful landscapes in Iran, especially magical at sunrise and sunset.
