For more than a thousand years, the roads of Iran carried silk, spices, ideas and stories between China and the Mediterranean. This Silk Road hoodie takes you back to that age of caravans, travelers and open horizons.
It’s a tribute to the journeys, and the horses and camels, that connected the ancient world through Iran.
The Design
Front: a proud horse standing among the mountains, cypress trees and pomegranates, finished with the word IRAN.
Back: a stone road leading through a mountain valley to the arched gate of a Persian caravanserai, where a camel caravan arrives, framed by ancient stone carvings, cypress trees and a large IRAN banner.
Iran and the Silk Road
The Silk Road was not one road but a vast network of routes linking China with Central Asia, India, the Middle East and Europe. Iran sat right at its heart, and for centuries Persian merchants, languages and art traveled along it in every direction.
The Persian Caravanserai
To protect travelers, Iranians built caravanserais roughly a day’s journey apart along the main roads: fortified inns with a single gate, a central courtyard and rooms for merchants, animals and goods. Many were built or rebuilt in the Safavid era, and in 2023 UNESCO inscribed fifty-four of them as The Persian Caravanserai World Heritage Site.
The Horse in Iranian Culture
Horses have been at the heart of Iranian life for thousands of years, from the cavalry of the Achaemenids and the legendary Parthian horsemen to Rostam’s faithful horse Rakhsh in the Shahnameh. Iran is also the home of chovgan, the ancient game of polo, recognized by UNESCO as part of humanity’s intangible heritage.
The Pomegranate
Pomegranates frame every design in this collection. In Persian culture, the pomegranate (anar) is a symbol of life, abundance and love, and it is the star of Yalda Night, when families gather on the longest night of the year to celebrate the return of light.
