The Historic Citadel of Shirvan

The town of Shirvan has long stood on the routes of northeastern Iran, and its historic citadel recalls the era of Nader Shah, when Khorasan was the heart of his empire. Around it, the fertile valleys are famous for their vineyards and sweet grapes.

The Aladagh Mountains

The Aladagh range rises between Bojnurd and the plains of Khorasan, with green slopes, deep valleys and summer pastures where nomadic herders still bring their flocks.

Golestan National Park and Salouk

North Khorasan shares Golestan National Park, the oldest national park in Iran, with its neighbor Golestan Province. Together with the protected area of Salouk, these forests and mountains are home to Persian leopards, wild sheep, ibex and brown bears.

A Land of Many Cultures

Kurds, Turks, Turkmen and Persians have lived side by side in North Khorasan for centuries, giving the province a rich mix of music, dress and traditions.
